Wildcats outlast Hubs in eight innings

Ariah Giles and Alexis Fisher each hit RBI doubles in the eighth inning to pace Williamsport to a 6-4 MVAL Antietam victory over North Hagerstown on Wednesday.

Fisher went 3-for-3 and also pitched all eight innings, striking out 13 for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1). Kayla Ewing added two hits.

Ragan Shaw had three hits for the Hubs (2-5, 1-2).

CLEAR SPRING -- Morgan Purdham tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Blazers, who led 8-0 after the first inning of their win over the Rebels (0-5, 0-3) in the MVAL Antietam.

Damara McDonough had three hits and drove in four runs for Clear Spring (5-1, 2-1). Heather Schlotterbeck also had three hits and Hannah Leizear added two hits.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Mercersburg Academy pitcher Sarah Erlichman spent the morning in a health center, but recovered to pitch a one-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts and lead the Blue Storm over Musselman (6-4).

Leigh Saner hit a two-run triple for Mercersburg (2-3).

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -- Emily Masters scored on an RBI double by Brittany Fahrney in the ninth inning to provide the only run of the game in Waynesboro's win.

Masters, Fahrney, Katie Zak and Megan Baker each had two hits for the Maidens (5-0). Zak hurled a four-hitter to earn the win, striking out nine and walking one.

Shelby Riley went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Paige Reed added three hits for the Eagles (10-4). Danielle Parks had two hits, including a home run.

SMITHSBURG -- Ryne Willard and Dylan Ianaro each hit two of Smithsburg's six home runs, and the Leopards defeated MVAL Antietam opponent Boonsboro (1-6, 1-2) in five innings.

Willard finished with four hits, including a two-run shot in the first inning and another two-run homer in the third, while Ianaro launched both of his two-run bombs in a nine-run third inning for the Leopards' (4-1, 2-1).

Justin Morgan added three hits, including a homer and four RBIs, while Nieko Akers had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Ben Daniels had two hits and drove in a pair.

OLNEY, Md. -- Christian Binford had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Mercersburg Academy in a loss to Good Counsel in the first game of a doubleheader split.

Chris Thorsen had two hits for the Blue Storm (3-2-1) in the opener.

In the nightcap, Matt Timoney pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, Binford had two hits -- including another home run -- and Sam Rodgers added two doubles for Mercersburg.
