W.Va. crash victim identified as Berkeley Springs man

April 07, 2010

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The man who died at the scene of a one-vehicle accident in Morgan County on Tuesday was Robert Edward Bland of Berkeley Springs, Morgan County Sheriff's Department Deputy Kevin Barney said.

Bland, 62, was pronounced dead at the accident site on Potomac Road, which was about three-quarters to 1 mile off W.Va. 9 (Martinsburg Road)," Barney said.

The 1986 Dodge that Bland was driving north went off the left side of the road, sideswiped two small trees and then more squarely struck a third, said Barney, who was dispatched at 4:26 p.m. to investigate the accident.

The cause of the crash was unclear, Barney said. There were no skid marks to indicate Bland lost control of the pickup, Barney said.

Bland was removed from the passenger side of the vehicle after appearing to be pinned inside, Barney said.
