Earth Day event planned

Volunteers are invited to join the Greening of Williamsport on Saturday, April 17. Plan to meet at Pavilion 1 in Byron Park at 9 a.m. Bring your family, work gloves and planting tools. Fresh doughnuts and beverages will be provided.

Williamsport received an Urban Tree Canopy grant. Volunteers, along with the Maryland Forest Service, will replace some trees and plant new ones near Springfield Farm. Prep work will be done Friday, April 16.

Senior softball league under way

The Washington County Senior Softball League will hold practice and registration each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until April 22 at the City Park ball fields at 5:30 p.m. The league is open to those 50 and older. For more information, call John Hawbaker at 304-274-0184.


Angel Food ordering time

Angel Food orders will be taken Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St., in the fellowship hall.

Yard sale to benefit WHS Blue Band

The third annual Yard Sale Extravaganza to benefit the Williamsport Blue Band will be Saturday, May 1, near the football field at Williamsport High School, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a rain or shine event.

Planned events include many yard sale items, bake sale and concessions. Donations of yard sale items (no large electronics, TVs or computers) and children's clothing (size infant to 6x) are still being accepted. Contact Missy DeHaven at 301-667-9660 or"> to make arrangements.

Spaces will be rented to sell your yard sale items. It costs $15 to rent a 15-by-15-foot space. Contact Karen Long at 301-582-3819 or"> to rent a space.

Clothes of Hope schedule for April

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St. provides gently used and some new clothing. They will be open Saturday and April 24 from 9 to 11 a.m.; Thursday, April 15 and 22, 9 a.m. to noon; and Monday, April 19, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated. The ministry will be open Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to collect clothes only.

o "American Bandstand" will be revisited on Saturday, April 24, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Springfield Farm Barn.

o The Town Museum will be open for the Washington County Museum Ramble set for Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, from 1 to 5 p.m.

o Williamsport's Canal Pride Day is Saturday, May 1, starting at 8 a.m. at Cushwa Basin.

o The annual free spring concert by the Williamsport Community Band will be Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at Springfield Farm Barn.

o Williamsport Ministerium's spring choral fest is Sunday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at Saint James Brethren Church.

o The fourth annual town employees classic car show will be Saturday, May 8, in Byron Memorial Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., along with crafts in the park. A "Lost in the '50s" dance at Springfield Farm Barn from 7 to 11 p.m. closes out the day.
