Mary Eleanor Rippeon, 89, formerly of West Side Avenue, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Western Maryland Hospital.

Born March 23, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Carl R. and Georgia Ethel Gibney Fritz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Rippeon, who died Aug. 2, 1990.

She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.

She was formerly employed with Interwoven. She was known as the "Snowball Lady." She and her husband operated a snowball stand in the West End from the 60s through the 80s.

She was a charter member of Hits & Misses Bowling League for 47 years.

Her hobby was collecting cow memorabilia.

She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Rose and Raymond Holton of Hagerstown; daughter-in-law, Susan Rippeon of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Scott Rippeon and wife Maureen, and Chris Rose and Kelly Michael; and a great-grandson, Caden Rose.


She was preceded in death by a son, Richard W. Rippeon, and a grandson, Keith Rose.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Jerry L. Lowans will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
