Around Funkstown

Nice weekend

Did you find all the eggs that were hidden? I can promise you that sometime this summer, somewhere, that last egg will appear and hopefully it was a plastic one and not a real one.

The weather was most cooperative and the weekend was long enough to find the time to relax a bit and eat too much.

Now we need to get back to our routines and start filling our calendar with area happenings. Let's see what's going on.

Basket bingo

Hagerstown Day Nursery is holding a Vera Bradley basket bingo Sunday at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown.

The nursery is a nonprofit, child development program.

The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the meal will be served at 12:15 p.m. Bingo begins at 1. There will be raffles, tip jars, door prizes and King Tuts to go along with the 25 games of bingo. Tickets cost $25, which includes the regular games of bingo and lunch. For tickets, call 301-739-5339 or 301-223-6376.

PTA meeting

The South Hagerstown High School PTA will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. in the media center. The PTA needs officers.

Spaghetti dinner

Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church is taking care of dinner next weekend.

On Saturday, April 17, an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hogan Hall. There will also be baked goods for sale.

AAUW used book sale

The American Association of University Women will hold its used book sale April 21 to 25. The times are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday is half-price day and the sale runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday is fill-a-bag day and runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be more than 50,000 used books on sale with everything from collectibles to hardbacks as well as paperbacks, tapes, CDs and DVDs.

It will be at the Washington County Agricultural Educational Center on Sharpsburg Pike.

All proceeds benefit scholarships for local students.
