Snow removal policy ideas mulled at work session

FUNKSTOWN -- Funkstown elected officials discussed a snow removal policy, but said they did not want to ticket any violators.

The idea discussed at a March 29 work session was to have residents park on one side of the street until a certain time, and then move their vehicles to the other side of the street to assist snow plows.

There isn't enough room to do this on Green Street, but most people on that street have driveways they can use, town officials said.

Town Clerk/Treasurer Brenda Haynes said Thursday that town residents would be notified of the plan through the town newsletter.

Mayor Robert Kline suggested adding to the policy that people cannot throw snow in the middle of the street. When the temperature drops, it creates a mess, he said.

Tax collection running late

FUNKSTOWN -- Funkstown is about three months behind on collecting personal property taxes after an e-mail mix-up, Town Clerk/Treasurer Brenda Haynes said.

Town officials usually get an e-mail from the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation about the taxes, Haynes said. Then town officials prepare the tax bills and mail them.

The e-mails weren't coming through for a while so the bills didn't get sent out until March, Haynes said Thursday.
