Spaghetti dinner

St. Matthew's United Methodist Church will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The menu includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, coffee tea and dessert. The dinner costs $7.50 for adults and $5 for those 5 to 12. Those younger than 5 eat free. There will also be a bake sale.

Museum to host concert

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will present soprano Karen Lubeck and pianist Jessica Chow in a program of songs inspired by nature, on Sunday, April 18, at 2:30 p.m. as part of the museum's annual Art in Bloom weekend celebration.

Tickets cost $5 per person for nonmembers and free for members and those 12 and younger. Seating is limited, with no reserve seating available.


A reception, hosted by members of the museum's volunteer organization, the Singer Society, will follow the performance.

Emma K. Doub Elementary School

April 12 - Fire prevention Safety House for third-graders; Maryland Symphony Orchestra String Quartet to perform for students in grades one and two.

School auction

Ebenezer Christian School's annual auction will be Thursday, April 29, at 6 p.m. The school is at 17618 Virginia Ave. in Hagerstown.

Items for auction include furniture, vacations/get-aways, gift certificates to local businesses, household items, crafts and other items. Proceeds go to benefit the school.

Track club

The Mountain Express Track Club meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at South Hagerstown High School.

The club is for those 7 to 18. The children will learn about the events in track and field.

Cooking class

The Women's Club will hold a cooking class at the club Thursday, April 15, at 7 p.m.

The club is at 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown.

Chef Francis Verdier, from Applause Catering/Academy Theater, will give a cooking demonstration featuring appetizer, salad and dessert.

Samples will be available for all participants.

Discovery Station

Saturday - Dave Kaplan, "Mr Butterfy," presents the life of butterflies at 2 p.m.

Bus trip

Crossroads Garden Club members invite the community to join them on a bus trip to Hillwood in Washington D.C., the home and gardens of the late Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to the Post Cereal empire.

The trip is Thursday, April 22. The trip costs $78, which includes bus transportation from Hagerstown and admission.

Elizabethtown East

The Elizabethtown East Neighborhoods 1st group will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Gourmet Goat, 41 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

For those unable to make the evening meeting, the group will meet at the restaurant at 10 a.m. for coffee.

Anyone living within the neighborhood who has questions or concerns is encouraged to attend one of these meetings.

Elizabethtown East takes in the area bordered by Baltimore Street on the south, Randolf Avenue on the north, Mulberry Street on the east and the alley behind the library and City Hall on the west.
