SHARPSBURG - Katarina "Katie" Patricia Sylvia Stains, 18, of Sharpsburg, Md., died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

She was born Oct. 8, 1991, in Hagerstown, Md., to Kirsten Stains of Sharpsburg, Md., and Greg Stains of Chambersburg, Pa.

She was an Ambassador in Girl Scouts.

She was a 2009 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a cheerleader at Williamsport High School for four years. Her goal in life was to be an early childhood education teacher working with autistic children. She was the 2009 True Grit Award recipient for Williamsport High School.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, Md.

Katie is survived by mother Kirsten Stains of Sharpsburg, Md.; father Greg Stains and stepmom Tracy of Chambersburg, Pa.; maternal grandmother Sylvia Walter; paternal grandfather Donald Stains and paternal grandmother Judy Stains of Hagerstown, Md.; paternal great-grandmother Verna Brandenburg of Hagerstown, Md.; paternal great-grandmother Laura "Libby" Lowman of Clear Spring, Md.; stepgrandmother Sally Plum of Mercersburg, Pa.; brother Alex Walter; brother Zachary Stains; sister Elizabeth Stains; niece Rilee Walter; cousins Chris, Anna, Frank, Saverio, Chiara and Michael; and her cousins Chris, Daniel and Krystal Stains, and Kris, Taylor, Kelsey, Katie, Nick, Amanda, Emilee, Braydon and Jacob; and extended family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Fred Walter, and paternal grandmother, Patricia Stains.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Monday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, Md., on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. James E. Swecker officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.

Anyone attending the funeral service should enter Salisbury Street via Conococheague Street.
