Recycling task force hears presentation on wind energy

BOONSBORO - Clean Currents, a Rockville, Md., company that finds clean wind energy at competitive prices for its customers, presented a program March 17 to the Boonsboro Recycling Task Force.

Clean Currents offers residents and businesses the ability to purchase as much as 100 percent of their electricity from wind, said Amanda Duzak, the company's residential green power outreach coordinator.

Duzak explained how to purchase wind power through Clean Currents by filling out an online form at http://www.cleancurrents.com or by calling 301-754-0430.

Customers will continue to receive their bill from Allegheny Power, Duzak said, but the bill will indicate that Clean Currents will receive payment for generation and transmission charges, which could comprise as much as 80 percent or more of each electric bill.

The company's rates are competitive and sometimes even lower, Duzak said. There is no cost to switch and Allegheny Power would remain the customer's utility provider, she said, adding that nothing about the electricity service would change. Customers can lock in rates for either one or two years and may choose 100 percent or 50 percent wind power.

Clean Currents will donate $10 to the task force for each household that switches to wind energy. Applicants should type in "Boonsboro" where the form asks how the applicant heard about the company. In addition, the company will donate an extra $500 when 100 households sign up under the Boonsboro name.
