Historical Society to meet

All members and friends are invited to the April 12 general meeting of the Sharpsburg Historical Society at 7 p.m. at Sharpsburg Town Hall.

Zumba classes forming at St. Mark's

Zumba classes will begin this month at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Parish House, at 18313 Lappans Road.


"Ditch the Workout and Join the Party" is Tuesday, April 6, at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. and Wednesday, April 7, at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. It runs until Tuesday, June 29 and Wednesday, June 30. Sharpsburg EMS to host basket bingo

Sharpsburg Emergency Medical Service will host a spring basket bingo Saturday, April 24, at Potomac Valley Fire Hall in Dargan.

Tickets cost $20 each and all baskets will be filled. Doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo starts at 6. A concession stand will be available for food purchases. All proceeds support Sharpsburg EMS. Chances of winning are good as a limited number of tickets will be sold (less than 115). For tickets, call the station at 301-432-5348 or Kelli at 301-992-4315.

AAUW to host book sale

The Hagerstown Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its used book sale April 21 to 25 at Washington County Agricultural Education Center, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike.

More than 50,000 books in good condition will be offered in 60 categories, including collectibles, special finds, current and choice. Tapes, CDs and DVDs will also be available. Most hardback books are priced from $1 to $3, and small paperbacks cost 50 cents. Saturday, April 24, will be half-price day. On the final day, books will be $5 per bag or six bags for $25.

Sale hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food will be available for purchase Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Proceeds from the sale go toward scholarships for local students.

House to speak to seniors

Helen House will speak on "Laughter is the Best Medicine" and conduct exercises Tuesday, April 6, at the senior site on Mount Vernon Drive in Keedysville.
