Blood drive held in honor of Franklin County Commissioner Bob Thomas

April 02, 2010

Cheryl Luger suggested the Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. host a blood drive after she heard Franklin County Commissioner Bob Thomas' story on the radio, she said. Thomas was diagnosed earlier this year with aplasic anemia, a blood disorder that severely lowers his white blood cell count making him very susceptible to infection. Watching dozens of people come to give the blood that Thomas now needs to live overwhelmed him, he said. Many people like Dave and Stacie Wolfe of Greencastle came to donate for the first time because of Thomas' story. The Franklin County Chapter of the American Red Cross was well on its way to reaching its goals 90 pints of blood Friday. Subway, Mikies Ice Cream Parlor, Papa Johns, Kline's Grocery and Commonwealth EcoWater System supplied refreshments for the donors.
