Carpenter pitches Hubs to victory

Corey Carpenter pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to earn his first win of the year as North Hagerstown shut down Walkersville 2-0 on Thursday.

The Hubs (3-2) broke a scoreless tie by plating both of their runs in the sixth inning. Jake Bachtell scored on a double steal and Thomas Allen followed with an RBI single.

WILLIAMSPORT -- Jason Hammond hit a grand slam and Zach Lucas added a three-run homer to highlight a 12-run fourth inning as the Wildcats rallied past the Cougars in the MVAL Antietam.

Hammond, Connor Arnone, Logan Jamison and David Carr each had two hits and Zach Weber added two RBIs for Williamsport (3-2, 2-0).

BRUNSWICK, Md. -- One day after rolling over South Hagerstown, Smithsburg fell prey to the upset bug in an MVAL Antietam contest.

Brunswick (1-3, 1-1) delivered home runs in the first two innings and went on to stun the Leopards (3-1, 1-1).

The Railroaders roughed up Marco Cardone, as Tyler Itnyre belted a three-run home run in the first inning and Michael Hooper cracked a three-run shot in the second.

Ryne Willard, Aaron Schroyer and Jake Gouff had two hits each for Smithsburg. Willard's hits were doubles.
