Apple Valley Waste

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Apple Valley Waste has announced the recent expansion of its services in Washington County to include recycling.

Apple Valley Waste will offer once-a-week pickup of recycled items for $6 per month.

The rate includes a recycling bin. Items that will be accepted include paper, newspaper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and steel cans, and plastics.

The service is being offered to the area around Hagerstown, but is not offered within the city limits.

Humane Society of Washington County

The Humane Society of Washington County recently was featured in the March/April issue of Animal Sheltering: The Magazine for Animal Care Professionals and Volunteers, a nationally distributed magazine published by the Humane Society of the United States.

The humane society was included in an article titled "Banking on Generosity to Feed Hungry Animals." The article was about pet food banks and how they are helping ease pet owners' financial burdens.

Summit Endowment

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Summit Endowment, the Franklin County Foundation of the Foundation for Enhancing Communities and the United Way of Franklin County will sponsor a workshop designed for board members, executive directors and other key managers of nonprofit organizations.

The workshop will be April 22 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Antrim House Restaurant at 104 E. Baltimore St. in Greencastle.

The workshop, titled "Good to Great: Strategic Planning for Goal Achievement" will be presented by Liz Weber, CMC, of Weber Business Services LLC.

The cost to attend, which includes a breakfast buffet, is $12. Registration and seating will begin at 7:30 a.m.
