Fairlie Stirling Evason (nee Jamieson) passed away quietly Dec. 22, 2009 at her home in Hagerstown, Md.

Fay was born Jan. 7, 1936, in Hawick, Scotland, the youngest of a family of seven sisters and two brothers.

She came to Canada in 1959, where she met and married Don, her husband of 48 years, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

She leaves to mourn two sons, David, at home and Mark of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one daughter, Catherine of Parkton, Md.; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Isabella Naylor, known as Bette, of Hamilton, Scotland, Lillian Wain of Bolton, England, and Violet Horgan, known as Hoppy, near Brisbane, Australia, as well as 10 nieces and nephews.

Fay was employed by the Washington County Health Department as an addictions counselor for 24 years.

Fay was well loved by her many colleagues and friends, who supported her during her lengthy illness. She will be missed.


A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD 21742, with the Rev. Greg Meserole presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742 or American Cancer Society, Washington County Unit, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
