WILLIAMSPORT -- Williamsport finally got its school name back on the Richard E. Doub Classic championship list.

The Wildcats remained unbeaten through seven games with a 62-53 victory over Greencastle-Antrim on Tuesday to win their first title since 1996.

"It feels good and I know coach (Scott Mowbray) is relieved," said tournament MVP Casey McKenrick, who scored a team-high 19 points, which included a 14-of-16 performance at the foul line.

Williamsport, playing in its third straight Doub final, used tenacious man defense to make it difficult for Greencastle from the start.

The Wildcats bolted to a 10-0 lead in the first 4:20 and led 27-13 at halftime. The lead grew to 44-25 after three periods as Williamsport held the Blue Devils to 29 percent shooting.

In turn, Williamsport consistently penetrated inside offensively and produced nearly all its scoring in the paint, resulting in a huge advantage at the foul line where the Wildcats were 29 of 35 compared to 6 of 7 for Greencastle.

"We had just a little height advantage and we utilized that a little on the inside," said Mowbray. "And defensively we gave them so many looks, we were able to keep them out of the lane until they started getting some good looks in the fourth quarter."

Williamsport's title didn't come without a slight scare. Greencastle (3-2) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter and whittled a 44-23 deficit to 53-47 with 1:56 remaining.

Reserve Dyshean Workman came off the bench to score nine points in the final period and Christian Hoover hit three 3-pointers in a frantic rally by Greencastle.

However, McKenrick went 9 of 11 at the line down the stretch as the Wildcats scored their final 16 points on foul shots. McKenrick even delivered a 3-pointer of his own with 9 seconds left in the first quarter on an open look from the right wing.

"I was open and just took it but I knew it better go in or I might be out of the game," said McKenrick of his first 3-point attempt of the year.

Greencastle coach Garon Gembe was frustrated with another slow start.

"We've never been so lethargic as we were tonight," he said. "We walked the ball up the floor. We were out of rhythm. Williamsport did a great job with the types of defenses on us."

Brandon McCauley had 12 points and Connor Arnone added 11 for the Wildcats. Workman, Hoover and Eric Baymon each had 11 points for Greencastle.

In the consolation match, Broadfording Christian dropped a 53-41 battle to Mountain Ridge.

The Lions (7-4), who trailed by 12 late in the first half, rallied to within 35-33 with seven minutes remaining before Mountain Ridge (3-4) regained control.

Pete Cradduck led Broadfording with 10 points.

Along with McKenrick, the all-tournament team in the 29th Doub Classic consisted of Williamsport's McCauley and Arnone, Greencastle's Hoover and Workman and Ryan Delaney of Mountain Ridge.
