Host Hancock holds off Broadfording in Holiday tourney

HANCOCK -- Hancock's defense came to the rescue in the final 11 seconds to help the Panthers preserve a 44-42 victory over Broadfording Christian in the opening round of the Hancock Holiday Tournament on Tuesday.

Tiffany Younker hit the front end of a 1-and-1 with 11 seconds left to give the Panthers a two-point lead. Hancock then got a steal, which led to Chelsea Stigile being fouled with 4.1 seconds remaining. She missed her foul shot and time ran out on Broadfording (2-5) as it grabbed the rebound.

Hancock (4-3) built an 11-point lead early and then allowed the Lions to rally. The Panthers will face Southern Fulton in the tournament final today at 7:30 p.m.

Briana Swisher led Hancock with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Stigile added 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

Broadfording's Katie Connolly led all scorers with 21 points.

Southern Fulton 81, Clear Spring 33

HANCOCK -- Chelsea Eader scored a game-high 24 points and Lacey Beatty had a triple-double as the Indians dominated the Blazers in a first-round game at the Hancock Holiday Classic.

Beatty finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals for Southern Fulton (3-1), which led 29-4 after one quarter and 52-9 at halftime. Amy Bard had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Taylor Leasure added 11 points. Eader also had five assists and four steals.

Jessica Barnhart had 14 points and Dominique Forsmann added 12 for Clear Spring (2-4).

Allegany 53, Greencastle 35

WILLIAMSPORT -- Allegany outscored Greencastle 20-4 in the second quarter to take control of the championship game of the Richard E. Doub Ladies Classic.

Leah Wormack scored a game-high 22 points for Allegany (4-1).

Tache Smothers had 14 points for Greencastle (3-2) and was named to the all-tournament team.

Allegany's Brooke Wharton was named the tournament MVP, while teammates Kelly Baker, Kelsey Knippenberg and Wormack made the all-tournament team.

Williamsport 45, Northern Calvert 26

WILLIAMSPORT -- Trisha Leigh scored nine of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and Williamsport dominated the second half to lead the Wildcats to a victory over Northern Calvert in the consolation game of the Doub Classic.

Williamsport (2-5) went to a pressure defense, forcing turnovers to score easy baskets, to turn a 18-14 halftime lead into a 27-17 advantage at the end of the third period.

Casey Arnone added 10 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats, while Leigh added five assists. Mauri Miller led Northern Calvert (2-5) with 11 points.

Leigh was named to the all-tournament team.

Mountain Ridge 60, South 54

FROSTBURG, Md. -- Luna Jefferson and Alex Silva had 20 points apiece for South Hagerstown, which lost in the championship game of the Mountain Ridge Holiday Tournament.

Silva also had 10 rebounds and four assists, while Jefferson added seven rebounds for South (2-5). Jefferson and Silva both made the all-tournament team.
