Bunker Hill fire victim remains in critical condition

December 28, 2009

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. -- A 48-year-old woman who was carried from a burning town house south of Inwood, W.Va., early Christmas Eve remained in critical condition Monday at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Patricia "Pat" Miller apparently was asleep in the living room of her two-story home at 15 Creedmore Drive in Bunker Hill when the fire broke out, police said.

Two men carried Miller from the town house after they saw smoke and flames while driving past the home on Winchester Avenue (U.S. 11), officials said. The road is within view of the home.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Lt. Gary Harmison said Monday that an assistant state fire marshal was expected to arrive Tuesday to investigate the cause of the fire, which has been narrowed down to wiring or smoking material.

Cigarette butts were found at the scene, Harmison has said.
