Mail Call

"My dog sleeps about 16 hours a day. She has her food prepared for her. She can eat whenever she wants, 24/7/365. Her meals are provided at no cost to her. She visits the doctor once a year for her check-up and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this she pays nothing, and nothing is required of her. She lives in a nice neighborhood, in a house much larger than she needs, but she is not required to do any upkeep. If she makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. She has her choice of luxurious places to sleep. She is living like a queen and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of her costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head: My dog is a Democrat." - Hagerstown

"I just want to thank whoever found my prescription in the parking lot at Wal-Mart on Dec. 23 and returned it to the pharmacy. God bless you, and have a Merry Christmas." - Maugansville

"My neighbors have abandoned their house in Fairplay, but they brought back their pet cat that they decided they didn't want after it had kittens. Well, the cat is now dead - frozen to death on their porch." - Fairplay

"I've always supported education in Washington County and I support Elizabeth Morgan 100 percent. She's worth every penny of her salary. But I was truly shocked to read that there were 48 people in the school system making more than $100,000 a year. I'm a college graduate, too, you know, but that's a little excessive for Washington County. This is not a high-cost area like New York or Los Angeles. And as far as the bus drivers and the cafeteria workers, to ask them to take a cut is absolutely disgraceful." - Hagerstown suburb

"I for one am sick of all these award shows on TV. Each year they become more ridiculous, for best this or best that. Two of the worst for 2009 were 'Slumdog Millionaire' winning the Oscar for Best Picture, and Barack (Obama) for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Need I go any further?" - Smithsburg

"Hey, with all these talk show hosts, Republicans, all complaining about Obama's health care plan taking away from the Medicare plan, from the seniors, that's all falsehood. All they're saying is ... they just want to do away with duplications of MRIs and different things. If you go to one doctor, and next week you go to another doctor, that he can't give you the same thing. In other words, get away from the duplication, which is waste, that they can funnel out just from one doctor to another what happened on the MRI. So it's just duplication." - Hagerstown

"To the person who was complaining about Washington County schools putting their notice in at the last minute, because they have children, they needed child care: If you had listened to the news or watched TV in the evening and at nighttime, you would have seen that the schools were closed because they announced that way above the time that they normally do. It wasn't in the morning. It was in the evening and at nighttime you saw it advertised on TV. At 2 or 3 o'clock, we got a thing saying it was closed. So maybe you need to pay attention a little bit more to what's going on in the future." - Hagerstown

"It's high time we started to execute these (individuals) that are grabbing up little girls and killing them, and taking the judges that let them out and putting them in jail." - Hagerstown

"I'd like to say a big thank to my neighbors on Otho Holland Drive in Williamsport; Sue for getting my mail, Jeff for moving my car so they could clean our parking lot and to Roger for bringing me a meal Christmas day. I was by myself because I broke my ankle 10 days ago. Thank you, and you have a happy, happy new year." - Williamsport

"I've been a Democrat all my life, and I've always heard that it was the Republicans that were for the big-money people, but Obama has shown that to be incorrect. It's the Democrats that bought out all the big bankers and let them have their big bonuses and their golden parachutes. So as far as I'm concerned, it's the Democrats that are for the big-money people." - Halfway

"This is for the caller from Falling Waters. I'd like to say I'm a Republican, I've been unemployed for a year and a half now, I'm receiving unemployment. My electric was turned off last week. I have $2 in my pocket. My unemployment was cut off. My cable's been cut off, my car's four months late. And I'm a Republican, but I'm not rich. So this is affecting all of us, the way the economy ... this is affecting all of us, Republicans, Democrats, anyone who's not associated with anything - white, black, yellow, green. God bless you all." - Rohrersville
