Police: Fantasy-type "dragon knife" used in fight

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man is accused of stabbing a man in the face with a "fantasy-type dragon knife" in an October fight, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Rickie Lee Riley, of 61 Porter Ave., was arraigned Saturday by Magistrate Joan V. Bragg on one felony count of malicious wounding, according to court records.

Riley allegedly wielded the knife during a fight with several other people on Oct. 25 at a Porter Avenue apartment complex, according to Martinsburg Police Department Cpl. C.M. Phelps.

Woman charged with dealing heroin, crack cocaine

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg woman is accused of distributing crack cocaine and heroin to a confidential informant earlier this month, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.


Bridget May Deminds, 24, was arraigned Monday on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance by Magistrate Harry L. Snow, according to court records.

The $50 drug transactions happened Dec. 16 at an apartment along Van Street where Deminds resided, according to a complaint by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.R. Barker.

Youth injured in Pa. crash

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. - A 16-year-old Dry Run, Pa., youth was flown to Altoona (Pa.) Hospital Sunday after the Dodge Intrepid the youth was driving on Back Road went off the road and struck a tree, Pennsylvania State Police said in a press release.

The crash occurred at 1:50 p.m. about four-tenths of a mile north of Dry Run, state police said.

The youth was not identified in the release and an investigation is continuing, police said.

Woman carried from burning town house still in critical condition

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - A 48-year-old woman who was carried from a burning town house south of Inwood, W.Va., early Thursday remained in critical condition Sunday night at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Patricia "Pat" Miller, 48, apparently was asleep in the living room of her two-story home at 15 Creedmore Drive in Bunker Hill when the fire broke out, police said.

Two men carried Miller from the town house after they saw the flames, officials said.

Officials said previously they had narrowed the cause of the fire down to some wiring and smoking material.

Cigarette butts were found at the scene, officials said.

Pennsylvania State Police respond to incidents

Pennsylvania State Police reported the following recent activity in Franklin County, Pa.:

  • A burglary was attempted in the 20600 block of Spring Run Road in Fannett Township between 11 p.m. Christmas Day and 10 a.m. Saturday. Entry was attempted, unsuccessfully, through two windows. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police at 717-264-5161.

  • The inspection sticker was stolen from a motor vehicle at Michaux State Park in Lurgan Township between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle's windshield was broken to get to the sticker.

  • Floyd E. Branthafer Jr., 33, of Shippensburg, Pa., was charged with retail theft after video games, DVDs and other items were reported taken at 7:55 p.m. Saturday from the Chambersburg Wal-Mart at 1730 Lincoln Way East.

  • Prescription drugs were stolen from a home that was broken into in the 16700 block of Path Valley Road in Fannett Township on Dec. 18. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police at 717-264-5161.
