John "Jack" Vincent Seifarth, 81

John "Jack" Vincent Seifarth, 81, of 13911 Sunrise Drive in Maugansville, Md. passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his home.

Born Saturday, May 19, 1928, in Clarysville, Md., he was the son of the late Henry Russell Seifarth and the late Cora Madeline Engle Seifarth.

He graduated in 1947 from Beall High School and later attended Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship, where he majored in aeronautical engineering. After college, he entered U.S. Air Force flight training as a fighter pilot. After serving in the armed forces, he was employed by Fairchild for more than 20 years and later retired from Mack Trucks Inc.

He was a member of the Southern Engineering Society and Northwood Swim Club, and volunteered with Boy Scouts of America Troop 64 of Maugansville.

Jack loved to garden, but more than that, he enjoyed spending time with his family, teaching them to ski and ice skate. He very much enjoyed the family dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Benna Seifarth; two daughters, Laurie S. Lympany and husband, Steven, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Lisa A. Seifarth of Hagerstown; four sons, Randy V. Seifarth and wife, Donna, of York, Pa., Rick L. Seifarth and wife, Linda, of Hagerstown, D. Eric Seifarth and wife, Cheryl, of Hagerstown, and John D. Seifarth and wife, Carol, of York; two sisters, Thelma Kirkhoff and husband, Bill, of Reading, Pa., and Janis Llewellyn and husband, Louis, of Frostburg, Md.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Louis L. Emerick officiating. The Rev. Emerick also married Jack and Pat 57 years ago.

Interment will be in Salem Reformed Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour before services at the funeral home.
