Ice blamed for traffic accidents

December 27, 2009

TRI-STATE -- Several accidents were reported in the Tri-State area Sunday morning due to icy roads, including black ice, Tri-State-area emergency service officials said.

Any wet spots left over from rain on Saturday or from melting snow probably refroze, National Weather Service meteorologist Brian LaSorsa said. There were areas of dense fog on Saturday, and not much wind. Those conditions could have prevented roads from drying, he said.

Black ice was attributed to accidents reported by 911 dispatchers in Franklin County, Pa.; Morgan County, W.Va.; and Frederick County, Md.
