How did you get into your business, or what motivated you to start it? "I have always been a fan of crafters (each and every one who creates and puts a whole lot of time and thought into their art), coffee (local and fresh roasted is my favorite) and organic food (many more nutrients without the chemical additives).

"Every time I've eaten at The Cracker Barrel or had a cup of coffee at Starbucks, I've enjoyed the atmosphere, but have always been disappointed that they hadn't offered 'local' or 'organic' to their venues. I just believe that local communities could sustain themselves and not make such a 'carbon footprint' by offering a place to showcase their talents/goods ... get back to community living. I think people in general would be a whole lot happier and healthier."

Previous business experience: "I've been an elementary school teacher/tutor and creator of children's shows most of my adult life, and have had ample office/administrative experience working in my husband's business - Gumption Enterprises Inc. (a Volvo maintenance and repair garage for 30-plus years)."

Number of employees: Business has 16 varied crafters at the present time.

Hours: "On weekdays, I open at 5 a.m. with coffee and organic/local 'cupboard items' for the early commuters and close at 5 p.m. for tutoring (after store hours). On weekends, I'm open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with specials such as talent shows, music, or workshops and spelling bees."
