Roscoe Conklin Bussard Jr., 85, of Hagerstown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 19, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roscoe C. Bussard Sr. and Jennie (Brown) Bussard.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.

He retired as a poster hanger in 1990 after 45 years of service with Outdoor Advertising Inc. in Hagerstown.

Roscoe was a lifetime member of William D. Byron VFW Post No. 1936 and AMVETS Post No. 10, both in Hagerstown; a member of Funkstown American Legion Post No. 211 and F.O. Eagles Aries No. 694 in Hagerstown. He was also a former member of Freestaters Drum and Bugle Corps for 22 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Eugenia M. (Izzo) Bussard; two sons, Ronald Bussard and Steven A. Bussard, both of Hagerstown; a stepson, Dale R. Griffith of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Annette Kendrick of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Carol Rethemeyer and husband, David, of Hagerstown; a brother, James Bussard of Funkstown; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Warren Bussard; and two sisters, Virginia Myers and Phyllis Wood.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown, with the Rev. George A. Limmer officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roscoe's name to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic School, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
