The Rosemarie Linenberger Grand Slam Charity Bridge group has been meeting nearly every Friday for nine years with two purposes in mind: to play bridge and support the local charity of the group's choice.

This year, the group voted to help two organizations: Holly Place and Food Resources Inc. of Hagerstown.

While enjoying casual bridge on Fridays at Western Sizzlin' Restaurant, the group collects $2 per person per week and donates the total to the charity at its Christmas luncheon.

Doug Wright, board president of Holly Place, attended the Christmas luncheon on Dec. 11, to accept a check in the amount of $1,125 for Holly Place.

Wright said Holly Place has a home on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown that cares for approximately 15 low-income seniors.

Holly Place provides a safe, comfortable home with round-the-clock care for its residents.

While Holly Place receives some funding from both the city and county, state funding has been cut off. Some residents are subsidized by the state. However, Holly Place must find sources for the rest of its operating expanses.

At the Christmas luncheon, club president Jan Goldman and club vice-president Jacque Goodnow presented Wright with a check for $1,100 from the club and additional donations by club members Carol Embrey and Edna Sharp.

Keeping in mind the difficulties the food banks are going through during this recession, the membership decided to send a check for $300 to help Food Resources. A check for $300 was sent before the Thanksgiving holiday to Food Resources in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
