The Eardleys

Russ and Lois Eardley of Hagerstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows on Sept. 27, 2009, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hagerstown. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor McIntyre. The ceremony was attended by their daughters, Paula Shifflett Eardley and her husband Dean; and Pamela Clifton Eardley; their three granddaughters; their two great-grandchildren; Mr. Eardley's brothers, Clifford Eardley and George Eardley; sister-in-law, Judy Eardley, and friends from Christ Lutheran Church.

Special music selections were shared by two of their granddaughters. After renewing their vows, the couple shared stories about when they met, and the happiness their family has brought them over the years. Mr. Eardley surprised Mrs. Eardley with a dozen long-stemmed red roses just as he had when he proposed 61 years ago.

The Eardleys were married Aug. 28, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor Ard, now deceased.

Mrs. Eardley is the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Bailey. Mr. Eardley is the son of the late Russell C. Eardley Sr. and Catherine Garrish.

Mr. Eardley served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals in 1992.

The Eardleys also celebrated their anniversary by taking an Alaskan Cruise.

The Howells

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Howell of Boonsboro celebrated their 60th anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, with a party at the Boonsboro American Legion.

In attendance with family and friends was best man and brother, Calvin "Tommy" Howell and matron of honor and cousin, Ann Shobe Pumphrey.

The Howells were married Nov. 24, 1949, at Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, by the Rev. Charles Lefew.

Mr. Howell retired from CSX Transportation with 42 years of service and Mrs. Howell remains a homemaker.

They have three children and three granddaughters.
