Religion: Speakers and topics

St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Stephanie Yancy will lead the 8 and 10:15 a.m. communion services Sunday. Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9 a.m. The adult forum topic is "Mary in the Gospels of Luke and John."

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pastor Quentin Fleming will preside at the 8:15 a.m. communion service and 10:30 a.m. alternate worship Sunday. The topic is "In His Father's House." At 10:30 a.m., the Sunday school children will present their Christmas program. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, Pastor Eric Norgard is preacher and presider Sunday at the 10:55 a.m. service in the sanctuary. Lay assisting minister is Inge Dudda. No Sunday school.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, Pastor Mark Mooney will lead the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service on "O Little Town." Mooney and one of his puppet friends will also share a children's sermon.

First Christian Church, Interim Minister Tim Murtaugh will bring the message, "Heralds of Glad Tidings: Simeon and Anna," at the 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday. Special music by pianist Kyle Martin. Sunday school for all ages at 11:15 a.m.

First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, Pastor Thom Smith will speak at the 11 a.m. service Sunday on "The End is Near." Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. The children and youth will present the Christmas musical at 6 p.m.

Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, the Rev. Rob Apgar-Taylor's message Sunday at 10:30 a.m. is "Did You Keep the Receipt?" Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, a service of carols and stories will be at the 10 a.m. service Sunday. Mary Medas is worship leader. Music will include the Intergenerational Band. Billy Clever will give the children's message. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m.

Valley Assembly of God Christian Life Center, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, Sunday, the topic at the 10 a.m. service is "The Important Leftovers." Bible study for all ages at 9 a.m. Sunday evening's activities begin at 6 p.m. There will be a service on New Year's Eve at 6 p.m.

Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., worship at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The Christmas choral cantata, "A Baby Changes Everything," will be performed by the Family Sunday Choirs at the late service. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. Hispanic ministry begins at 7:30 p.m.

Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., Pastor Larry Weber will speak at 10:40 a.m. Sunday on "The Consolation of Israel." Christian education for all ages 9:30 a.m.

A Cry in the Wilderness Ministries, 13194 Monterey Lane, meeting in Steve's Studio/Gallery at Tracey's Corner in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. will feature the topic "The Special Gift" by Pastor Steve Burdette. "The Unlikely Three" is the title of the holiday drama.

Zion United Church of Christ, the 11 a.m. Sunday service will feature a sermon by the Rev. Gerry Hanberry on "God's DNA - The Story is Our Story, Too." There will be a carol sing. Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m.

Mount Vernon Reformed UCC, Keedysville, Pastor Delancy Catlett will speak on St. John the Evangelist at the 10:45 a.m. service.

Christ Reformed UCC, Sharpsburg, Pastor Delancy Catlett will speak on St. John the Evangelist at the 9 a.m. service Sunday.

Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Halfway, the Rev. Tim Leighton will speak at the 10:45 a.m. service Sunday on "The Boy Teacher." Adult Bible study is at 9:30 a.m. Children's Sunday school is at 10:45 a.m.

Tri-State Fellowship, Senior Pastor Randy Buchman will speak at all three services Sunday on the topic, "And He Shall Reign." No classes this Sunday for children or adults.

Trinity Reformed UCC, 33 Potomac St., Boonsboro, the Rev. Don Stevenson will speak Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on "Let's Rejoice."

New Beginning Community Church, corner of Dual Highway and Beaver Creek Road, Pastor Mark Snyder will share a message on "Direction for New Year," at 11 a.m. Sunday. Music by LeAnne Snyder. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.

St. Peter's (Beard's) Lutheran Church, Old Forge Road, the Rev. David Baker will speak at the 9:15 a.m. service Sunday on "An Unforgettable Day."

Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, at Sunday's 10:30 a.m. worship, the Rev. Donna Ritchey Martin will speak on "Glory in Swaddling Clothes." Sunday School begins at 9:30 am.
