Fitness classes to start



Fitness classes will be held at Maugansville Elementary School for the new year. They include:

o 60 minutes in 45 - Certified instructor Gene Raby brings 20 years of experience in the exercise industry to this fitness class. The class includes choreographed aerobics, basic step and body conditioning done at a pace that allows participants to get a 60-minute workout in 45 minutes.

The class will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 12 to April 15, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

o Zumba - The 45-minute class features exercise done to Latin and hip-hop rhythms. The class is taught by Liz Martz. The class will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Jan. 12 to April 15, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

o Muscles at work - The class, taught by Raby, includes weight training and body toning. The class will focus on muscle groups of the abs, glutes, inner and outer thighs, plus arms and chest. The class will be Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to April 14, from 5 to 5:30 p.m.

Maugansville Ruritan Club members judged Christmas house decorations and lighting Dec. 14.

Prize winners for this year's contest are as follows:

o First place - Bobby Talhelm, 13851 Cearfoss Pike

o Second place - Chuck Cunningham Jr., 13928 Sunrise Drive

o Third place - Jamie Burger, 17934 Jennifer Lane in Maugans Meadows.

Ruritan Club holds Christmas party



The Maugansville Ruritan Club hosted about 60 children and their families at the community center Dec. 17. The event included games, crafts, refreshments and a visit from Santa, as well as pictures. The club offers the free party to the children of the Maugansville community to celebrate the holiday. Next year's party will be Thursday, Dec. 16.

Blood drive



The Maugansville Ruritan Club will host its seventh and final Red Cross blood drive of the year Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Community Center on Maugans Avenue. Nearly 300 units of blood have been collected so far this year at the Ruritan sponsored drives.
