Troop 64 in Maugansville marks 50 years

The Boy Scouts of America was established in 1910. The Mason-Dixon Council was chartered in the 1920s. Troop 64, Maugansville, recently celebrated its 50th year of serving youth in the community.

The celebration was held at the Maugansville Ruritan Building, with many former Scouts and leaders in attendance.

Troop 64 members conducted the opening ceremony and presented the colors. Scoutmaster Scott Smoot reviewed the recent accomplishments of the Boy Scouts who attended Sinoquipe Scout Reservation during the summer.

Committee Chairman Eugene Creek conducted a roll call of all the Eagle Scouts from Troop 64 in attendance. The Eagle Scouts reminisced about their experiences in Scouting and with Troop 64. Following the Eagle roll call, a Scoutmaster's roll call was conducted by the chairman. The Scoutmasters all expressed their experiences and gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of molding the lives the Scouts entrusted to them by the parents of the Scouts.

State Sen. Donald Munson presented a state resolution and Del. Andrew Serafini presented a House resolution to the troop. The Washington County Commissioners presented a county proclamation. U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin sent letters of congratulations honoring Troop 64.

The Maugansville Ruritan was recognized as being the sponsor for the entire 50 years.

Troop 64 is sponsored by the Maugansville Ruritan Club.
