Callaham retiring from Greater Hagerstown Committee

December 22, 2009

HAGERSTOWN -- The Greater Hagerstown Committee said Tuesday that Executive Director Art Callaham will retire Sept. 1, 2010.

Callaham has been executive director since 1998. He took the job when Fort Ritchie, where he worked for 21 years, was targeted for closure.

The nonprofit Greater Hagerstown Committee -- community leaders who work privately on local issues -- is searching nationally for a new executive director, the organization said in a news release.

The committee expects to hire someone in July, so the new person can work for a month or two with Callaham before he leaves.

"Art will be missed; he has been an active force for positive change in our community," Greater Hagerstown Committee Chairman John League, The Herald-Mail's editor and publisher, said in the news release. "Callaham has continually challenged the committee to look for fresh ideas and new strategies."
