Second-chance scholarship available through HCC program

Hagerstown Community College students entering their second semester are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship from Prisoners Against Teen Tragedy (PATT), a community outreach and youth diversion program at Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown.

In order to apply for this scholarship, students must have been enrolled at HCC for at least one semester, must have a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher and must submit a 500-word essay on one of the following topics:

o Describe how you have overcome an adversity in your life such as negative peer pressure, or problems associated with anger, depression, criminal activity or substance abuse.

o If you're entering the field of criminal justice or psychology, describe how you can relate with the group mentioned above and/or how you would like to help these individuals overcome the adversities they've faced.

Essays should be submitted no later than Jan. 31, and can be e-mailed to HCC Student Financial Aid Counselor Britney Carter at blcarter@hagerstowncc.edu.
