County Homemakers Clubs members gather for holiday party

December 20, 2009

The Washington County Homemakers celebrated the holidays with a party Dec. 3.

The county's nine Homemakers Clubs gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown for several demonstrations, food, and door prizes. The theme for the meeting was Snow Festival.

The program included holiday decorations and gift ideas. Isabelle Stottlemyer from the Clear Spring Garden Club demonstrated how to make a simple but elegant centerpiece using greens and carnations. She assembled a candle ring by wrapping various greens and adding ribbon.

Homemaker Club members Darlene Semler and Margaret Ridenour showed members how to make waterless snow globes and how to create your own hot chocolate mix. Semler and Ridenour also gave a reading of "Memories of Yesteryear" that provided recollections of reusing feed sacks.

The program booklet was designed by Homemaker Betty Rogers. Recipes for the program booklet were collected and listed by Homemaker Helen Foster. Homemaker Mary Fiery gave the invocation. Table centerpieces and homemade cookies were provided by each Homemakers Club.

The luncheon was provided by the Snow Festival's committee members. The committee members were Homemakers Caren Babst, Helen Foster, Lena Itnyre, Nancy Itnyre, Margaret Ridenour, Betty Rogers and Darlene Semler.

The theme-oriented centerpieces were among numerous door prizes distributed at the end of the meeting.
