MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Elsie J. Pike, 71, of Mercersburg, Pa., died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at her home.

Born Dec. 27, 1937, in Stepney, Md., she was a daughter of the late Roy Lee and Evelyn Roseanna Dorn Pyle.

Mrs. Pike worked as an operator/office clerk for 35 years for C&P and later AT&T.

She was a graduate of Aberdeen High School, Aberdeen, Md.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg, where she was an avid volunteer and was a member and secretary of United Methodist Women.


Surviving are her husband, Ralph B. Pike, whom she married May 17, 1985; a granddaughter, Catherine Lapadula of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Nora Funaiole of Bradenton, Fla.; brothers, Lejune R. Pyle of Bel Air, Md., and Frank Pyle of Nottingham, Pa.; four stepchildren; and 17 stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David R. Gilchrist Sr.; a son, David R. Gilchrist Jr.; three brothers, Lee Pyle, Tristam Pyle and Howard Pyle; and a sister, Lorraine Grosh.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 22, 2009, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael E. Baughman officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin Unit, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
