MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A former freshman cheerleading coach at Hedgesville High School was arraigned Friday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on charges of providing alcohol to minor children and contributing to the delinquency of a child, according court records.

Lisa Renee Murphy, 36, of 7091 Hedgesville Road in Hedgesville, W.Va., was arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller and released on a $4,000 bond, records show.

Murphy's ex-boyfriend, John A. Chambers, 36, of Martinsburg, was arraigned on the same misdemeanor offenses Monday and released on a $2,600 bond, according to court records.

Murphy was employed by Berkeley County Schools as a paid coach and a school aide, according to Jaimee Borger, the school district's communications director.

Borger said she did not know when Murphy resigned, but she believed it was after the allegations surfaced in October.

Murphy was not working or acting in her capacity as a paid coach when the alleged incident occurred, Borger said.

Borger did not know how long Murphy was employed with the school district, but Hedgesville High School principal Don Dellinger said he believed Murphy was in her second year as a paid coach.

A student told Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy C.B. Wilmer on Oct. 30 that she had been provided alcohol at Murphy's home on three occasions and that Murphy bought the alcohol twice, according to court records.

Another student told the deputy "she got really sick and was throwing up because she took a shot of Jack Daniels (whiskey) in addition to (Chambers) continually giving her drinks ...," according to court records.
