H1N1 flu vaccination clinics scheduled Dec. 22 and 23

HAGERSTOWN -- The Washington County Health Department will hold flu vaccination clinics for H1N1 flu on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Vaccinations will be available by appointment only. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

The health department said appointments will be made beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, until all appointment slots have been filled.

There is no charge for the vaccination.

Vaccinations will be available to people in all age groups.

However, the target groups recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. remain a priority for the health department. They are:

o Pregnant women

o People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months old

o Health care and emergency medical services personnel


o People between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old

o People between the ages of 25 and 64 who are at a higher risk for H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.

People seeking a second H1N1 vaccination for children should bring documentation of the date of the first dose.

The H1N1 flu vaccine will be given by injection. The vaccine will not provide protection from the seasonal flu.
