She is also survived by six grandchildren, David Bromley and wife, Kathy, Diane Bromley Giffin and husband, Tim, Dean Bromley and special friend, Jo(ann) Proctor, Jeffrey Stevenson and wife, Polly, Dana Baer and husband, Tim, and Jennifer Stevenson Custer and husband, Jeffrey.
Evelyn was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Meagan, Joshua, Tyler, Katelyn, Jessi, Jaymi and Jacki; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Lauryn. She is further survived by two sisters, Frances Shaub of Lancanster, Pa., and Charlotte Birney Kretsinger and husband, Robert, of Smithsburg; two brothers, James E. Green of Martinsburg, W.Va., and A. Robert Green and wife, Grace, of Smithsburg; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth W. Green and wife, Madalon V., of Smithsburg, and Bernard Green (infant); brother in-law, Howard Shaub of Lancaster, Pa.; and sister in-law, Saxon Green of Martinsburg.
She served Welty's Church of the Brethren and Ringgold Church of Christ in the capacities of Sunday school teacher, youth choir director, adult choir director and floral arrangement coordinator for the altars. In earlier years, she sang with an adult quartet and ladies trio. Evelyn was active in many areas of church service her entire life, living her life as an honorable example of an elder's wife.
Evelyn enjoyed being a wife, mother, homemaker and working in her flower gardens. She was an avid reader, and passionate about the study of the scriptures and Christian materials.
Services will be held Thursday Dec. 17, 2009, at 10 a.m. from J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Richard Daughtridge and Pastor Don Conley officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
