Fire causes $5,000 in damage to Frederick Co. home

December 15, 2009

JEFFERSON, Md. -- A house fire Tuesday morning caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to a home in southern Frederick County, Md.

The fire occurred just after 8 a.m. at a residence in the 5300 block of Wye Creek Drive, a press release from Frederick County Fire and Rescue said.

A neighbor notified authorities that smoke was coming from the garage.

The house was empty at the time and a neighbor told firefighters it was undergoing renovations, the release said.

The fire was contained to a first-floor bathroom and took about 15 minutes for firefighters to get under control, the release said.

Investigators from the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office determined the cause of the fire to be a faulty ceiling fan.
