Ruth Alberta (Hose) Eichelberger Moore

WILLIAMSPORT - Ruth Alberta Moore passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Hilltop Vistas Assisted Living at Homewood in Williamsport, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She previously resided at 300 Woodpoint Ave., Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 16, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clyde E. Hose and Clara Swartz Hose.

She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Hagerstown, Vita Vota Class and sang with the senior choir.

Ruth was known as the Candy Lady, as she was always passing out a sweet treat to everyone she met.

She was married to her first husband, Robert G. Eichelberger, for 32 years and they operated a business together. Robert died in June 1965.


Ruth was then married to her second husband, Nevin V. Moore, for more than 31 years. Nevin died in September 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene K. Mose, and her son-in-law, Terry L. Mose, Hagerstown; two grandsons, Jeffrey L. Mose, Woodbine, Md., and Kirby L. Mose, San Antonio, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Hose; sisters, Beulah Peters, Mabel Roof, Esther Benner, and Margaret Shomo; and a stepsister, Ethel Everhart.

Ruth was greatly loved and tenderly cared for by Mandy Baker and the entire staff of Hilltop Vistas Assisted Living at Homewood, Williamsport.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Thom Smith and the Rev. Jeffrey L. Shull officiating.

Friends will be received immediately following the service.
