Leopards third at Kent County

WORTON, Md. -- Smithsburg opened its season by placing third at the Kent County Holiday Tournament.

Huntingtown won with 137.5 points, while Kent Island edged Smithsburg 133-131.5 for second.

Dylan Sharon was the champion at 189 pounds for the Leopards, while Monica Hovermale (112), Dean White (145), Nieko Akers (171) and Ed Waltz (285) each finished second.

Indians win Max Horz tourney

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Ryan Diehl (103 pounds), Cohen Hovermale (119) and Damen Capper (145) won their weight classes at the Max Horz Tournament, leading host Berkeley Springs to the team title.

Indians topped the field of 20 teams with 189.5 points. Dematha Catholic was second (178.5) and Hedgesville was third (159.5).

Also for Berkeley Springs, Zac Risinger (140) and Hobert Delph (285) each took second, Tory Bennett (171) was third, C.J. Gosey (215) finished fourth and Issac Reed (112), Loguen McKee (125) and Richard Marshall (130) each placed sixth.

For Hedgesville, Steve Miele (189) placed second, Brad May (135), Mario Schiano-Dicola (215) and Travis Wheat (285) each placed third, Duncan Yeisley (112) was fourth, Nick Miller (103), Gunner Wilt (119) and John Cardello (152) each placed fifth and Jesse Kemmerer (140) and Mike Cardello (171) each finished sixth.

Cody Spinks was the runner-up at 145 for 12th-place Musselman.

Three Cougars place at tourney

WOODBRIDGE, Va. -- Jefferson had three placewinners at the Prince William County Invitational.

Kenyan Williams was the runner-up at 189 pounds, while Cody Butts (119) and Devin Raine (171) each placed fourth.

Jefferson sweeps

WOODSTOCK, Va. -- Jefferson swept Massanutten Academy, winning the girls meet 81-8 and the boys meet 57-27.

Luisa Holland won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.56 for the Jefferson girls (5-0), and Phil Allen won the 500 freestyle in 6:53.28 for the Jefferson boys (2-3).
