Indians win opener against Highland View

BOYS BASKETBALL



Eric Moss scored a game-high 16 points as Berkeley Springs won its season opener 50-31 over Highland View Academy on Thursday.

Ian Magambo had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Paris Ritter had 14 rebounds and Daniel Tulloch had nine points, seven steals and seven assists for the host Tartans (2-3).

Goretti 124, Jefferson 45

St. Maria Goretti took first place in every boys event held in its meet with Jefferson on Wednesday at the Hagerstown YMCA. Hunter Buterbaugh won the 200 freestyle (2:06.14) and the 100 freestyle (55.68 seconds), Tanner Beal took first in both the 200 IM (2:24.97) and the 500 freestyle (6:15.47) and Michael Brower won the 100 butterly (1:00.17) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.72) for the Gaels (3-0). Ian Moss won the other individual race, the 100 backstroke, in 1:05.95.

Jefferson 118, Goretti 50

Cassidy Lippert won the 200 IM (2:39.87) and the 100 breaststroke (1:20.33) for St. Maria Goretti (0-1-2), while Teresa Barton took second place in a close finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.69 seconds, .04 seconds behind the winner.
