CLEAR SPRING - Edward Leon Seal Sr., 82, of Clear Spring, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 27, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Isaac Prudence and Letha Ellen (Reese) Seal.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

He retired in 1989 after 44 years of service with the Western Maryland Railroad and CSX Railroad as a brakeman and conductor.

Edward was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime member of the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg, Western Maryland Sportsman's Club in Sharpsburg, the Improved Order of Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84 in Williamsport, the Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790, the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. and the Clear Spring Ambulance Co.


He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bertha Florence (Hughes) Seal; a daughter, Dixie Sirbaugh and husband Junior of Boonsboro; a son, Edward L. Seal Jr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Laura Dorsey of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren, Chininnia and husband Gary Devore of Falling Waters, W.Va.; Neva Kim and husband Ron Casto of Sutton, W.Va.; P.J. and wife Sara Smith of Hagerstown; Deanna and husband Rich Casto of Sharpsburg; and Katie Sirbaugh of Keedysville; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews from Luray, Va., and Hagerstown.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received one hour before the service at the funeral home.
