Russell G. Brown Sr., 76, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles E. Sr. and Fay E. Brown.

He was employed with Manbecks for several years and later retired from Rust-Oleum Corp. in 1996 after being employed with them for nearly 15 years.

Russell had many hobbies, which included racing stock cars, go-karts, and flying model airplanes for years throughout Hagerstown and other surrounding states.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Brown.

Russell is survived by his seven children, Pamela J. Shelton of Kearneysville, W.Va., Russell G. Brown Jr., Cynthia M. Brown, Deborah S. Johnson and Jeffrey L. Brown, all of Hagerstown, Randy E. Brown of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Tammy A. Clark of Clear Spring; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Danny Brown; a sister, Beatrice "Bea" Snapp, both of Hagerstown. Also surviving him for the past 10 years are his trusting, loyal and faithful dogs, Max and Ginger.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward E. Brown, Marvin W. Brown Sr. and Charles E. Brown Jr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Burial will follow the graveside service.

Friends and family will be received one hour before the service in the funeral home.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, is in charge of the arrangements.
