Broadfording Christian Academy Fun Night



Broadfording Christian Academy is having a Family, Friends and Supporters Fun Night on Monday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Denny's on Dual Highway in Hagerstown. Activities will include free face painting and, for 50 cents, take a spin on the prize wheel. The BCA mascot Judah the Lion will also make an appearance. A percentage of the meals sold will benefit Broadfording's PTF.

'The Gift of the Magi'



A drama titled "The Gift of the Magi" will be presented Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10:45 a.m. at Robinwood Church of God, 12030 Warrenfeltz Lane, just off Jefferson Boulevard in Hagerstown. The story is about a young married couple with little money. The day before Christmas, the wife counts the money she has painstakingly saved for months and is dismayed to find there is less than $2, but she is determined to find a way to buy her husband the present he deserves. Author presentation, book signing



Author Edith Hemingway will speak about her recently published juvenile fiction book, "Road to Tater Hill," on Saturday at the Smithsburg Library. She will give a brief talk and answer questions about her book at 11 a.m. in the Community Room. She will also play the dulcimer, an instrument featured in her novel. After 11:30 a.m., Hemingway will sign books in front of the fireplace inside the library. "Road to Tater Hill" was published by Delacorte Press, a division of Random House Children's Books, and won a 2009 Parents' Choice Gold Award. Books will be available for purchase. Breakfast with Santa



An all-you-can-eat breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co., 22 N. Main St. Admission costs $3 for ages 3 to 6; $6 for ages 7 to 11; $7 for ages 12 to 55; and $6 for ages 56 and older. Bring your own cameras. For more information, call 301-824-3439.

Cascade Elementary



The Washington County Bookmobile will visit Cascade Elementary the first Friday of every month, weather-permitting, from 9 a.m. to noon for students, staff and the community.

Smithsburg Elementary



Smithsburg Elementary School held its annual Grandparents Day on Nov. 25. Roughly 300 special visitors went to the school to enjoy time with their favorite students. Also, students recently completely a canned food drive for The Salvation Army. More than 1,240 canned food items were donated.

Smithsburg Middle
