Washington County BOE awarded low-bid contracts for Eastern Primary School



The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday awarded three more low-bid contracts for the construction of Eastern Primary School on the east end of Hagerstown. JP Construction of Woodbridge, Va., was awarded a $975,937 contract for gypsum/drywall work, and Master Care Flooring of Baltimore will provide wood flooring work for $69,813. Improvements to Yale Drive in front of the school will be done for $858,694 by David H. Martin Excavating Inc. of Chambersburg, Pa. Contracts amounting to about $19.4 million have been awarded for the school's construction.

Eastern Primary School is estimated to cost about $25 million, and is slated to open in August 2011.

Hartings appointed board's new vice president



Justin Hartings will serve as the Washington County Board of Education's new vice president.

The board approved Hartings' appointment by a 7-0 vote during a meeting Tuesday. Hartings replaces Ruth Anne Callaham.

Wayne Ridenour was reappointed to serve as board president.

Richard Wright, spokesman for Washington County Public Schools, said the board votes every year to appoint a president and vice president.
