Mary Louise (Blickenstaff) Ridenour

Mary Louise (Blickenstaff) Ridenour, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.

She was born to Ralph and Hattie Eckstine Blickenstaff.

She married Howard Cullers (deceased) and they had two children, James Edward and Betty Jane Cullers Miles.

Later, she married David Homer Ridenour (deceased) and they had Peggy Ridenour Hardinge.

Mary worked for the Greenwalt's on the Terrace as a young girl, later marrying Howard Cullers and moving to Michigan.

Upon returning to Maryland, she was married to David Ridenour and they farmed in the Smithsburg (Md.) area for several years on what in now known as Whispering Hills. Moving to the Ringgold area, Mary began working at Doubleday Bookbinding. She worked for her GED and then continued her studies in early childhood development at Mount Saint Mary's College.

Soon after, she opened Jubilee Nursery, a day-care center in Smithsburg, and included special-needs children, when referred by local pediatricians, along with her registered students.


She and David were also owners of Jubilee Apartments and rental units.

Mary was active in her church her entire life, as Sunday school teacher, Bible study participant and overall mentor. She was an avid traveler visiting four continents, extensive U.S. and Canada travels and many islands. She loved all things Roseville, Heisey and Hummel, and had extensive collections of each. Mary was a regular at area auctions and loved refinishing the furniture treasures she would collect.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, who died on her birthday 23 years ago. She is survived by one son, James Edward Cullers, wife Alma, their daughter, Robin, and Robin's daughter, Sarrah.

Mary is survived by daughter, Betty Miles, husband, Harold, their daughter, Sandra, and their son, Steve.

Lastly, Mary is survived by a daughter, Peggy Hardinge, husband, Hunt, Peggy's son, Chad Easterday, and wife, Katie, and their children, Nicholas and Madilyn. Also by Hunt's children, Tom, Hannah, Addie and Robert.

Mary leaves behind a brother, Russell Blickenstaff and sister, Jane Finniff; as well as in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. But mostly, Mary leaves a legacy of love for the Lord and encouragement for her loved ones to maintain their faith in Him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by graveside services at Rest Haven Cemetery, with a fellowship meal to follow at Trinity Lutheran Church on Randolph Avenue, Hagerstown.
