Local holiday drives

Following is a roundup of holiday drives:

o The following locations are drop-off sites for new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots campaign:

-- Hagerstown Suns merchandise store, near the front entrance of Municipal Stadium at 274 E. Memorial Blvd. The store is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drop box will remain in place through early December.

-- Edward Jones office of Benito Vattelana, in the Stone House Square shopping center at 12818-E Shank Farm Way. For more information, call 301-733-3348.

-- Frostburg State University sociology club at University System of Maryland at Hagerstown is collecting toys through Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the school's lobby, 32 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.


-- Dress Barn at Prime Outlets at Hagerstown, through Tuesday, Dec. 15. Those who provide a new unwrapped toy will get 15 percent off any single regular-priced item.

o The Washington County Free Library Staff Association is holding a canned food drive. Nonperishable foods can be dropped off at the Central Library, at 100 S. Potomac St. in downtown Hagerstown, or at any of the community branches during regular operating hours through Friday, Dec. 11. The food will be donated to food banks in the libraries' communities. o Cornerstone Wealth Management Group, a Hagerstown-based wealth-management firm, is collecting clothing and monetary donations this holiday season on behalf of Children in Need. Donations can be dropped off at Cornerstone's office at 19833 Leitersburg Pike, Suite 1, until Dec. 11. Children in Need is a nonprofit group that provides essential clothing, personal-care items and educational supplies to Washington County children. o Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. is collecting money and new toys for 83 Clear Spring-area families in need this holiday season. Deadline is Dec. 12.

Monetary donations can be sent to Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co., ATTN: Food drive, P.O. Box 400, Clear Spring, MD 21722. Check may be made out to Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. and with "food drive" on the memo line.

New toys and canned food can be dropped off at:

o The AT&T store at 17622 Garland Groh Blvd. is conducting a food drive through Dec. 15. The store is accepting nonperishable items to donate to Food Resources. Those who donate on Sunday, Dec. 6, will receive a 10 percent discount on non-Apple wireless accessories.

o Washington County Autocare Elite Repair facilities are participating in the Toys for Tots campaign. Take a new, unwrapped toy to one of the participating facilities before Tuesday, Dec. 15, and receive a coupon for a free oil change with a NAPA oil filter and conventional motor oil. Participating facilities are Roy's Quality Car Care, Scott's Speed Shop, Daymude's Auto Service and Davidson's Auto Center in Hagerstown; Harshman Automotive in Smithsburg; Eby's Garage in Boonsboro; and B&B Automotive in Sharpsburg. o Edward Jones' downtown Hagerstown branch is collecting nonperishable food items on behalf of Food Resources regional food warehouse from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. Canned and boxed food items may be taken to the branch at 33 W. Franklin St. between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

o Wolf Furniture, Key 103, WWEG the Eagle, Comcast and The Salvation Army are holding a Coats for Kids drive. Take new or gently used coats or jackets to Wolf Furniture at Prime Outlets-Hagerstown or Wolf Furniture at 1215 W. Patrick St. in Frederick, Md., before Dec. 19. The Salvation Army will distribute the coats.

o Students at University System of Maryland at Hagerstown are collecting items to benefit a local family in need, Hagerstown Rescue Mission and San Mar Children's Home. A list of requested items can be obtained by contacting Amanda Peterson at or Felecia Garrison at Donations will be collected until Wednesday, Dec. 23. Boxes are in the school's lobby, 32 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.

o Prime Outlets at Hagerstown is holding a food drive through Dec. 24, to help Food Resources Inc. provide meals to those in need. Shoppers who donate canned food items will receive a free VIP coupon book.

o Citizens Assisting and Sheltering the Abused, or CASA, is collecting new pajamas for children it serves.

Pajama sizes for boys and girls are infant through children's extra large. The collection continues through Dec. 31.
