GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Carl H. Martin, 81, of 1678 Phillippy Road, Greencastle, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at the Mennonite Home, Maugansville, Md., where he had been a resident for the past two months.

Born Oct. 13, 1928, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Aaron H. and Ethel (Horst) Martin.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of Reiff Mennonite Church near Cearfoss.

He and his wife, Vesta L. (Martin) Martin, were married June 18, 1949.

Surviving family, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Marjorie A. Strite, Chambersburg, Pa.; three sons, Gerald L. Martin, Bloomfield, N.M., Nevin R. Martin, Greencastle, and Carl R. Martin, Waynesboro, Pa.; two brothers, Ammon Martin and Caleb Martin, both of Hagerstown, Md.; one sister, Corinne Martin, Worthington Ind.; 28 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rodney E. Martin on March 6, 1997; one brother, Oliver Martin; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church near Cearfoss with the Reiff Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
