Mail Call

December 07, 2009

"I agree with all these people that's been calling in about the manger scene in Chambersburg. It's about time for the majority to stand up and take back the rights that they have (been) taken away from us. This is our country. It was born on religious freedom and it should stay that way. ... I think we need to take our rights back, starting with our manger scene."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"I think the Hagerstown signal department should decorate the tree in the square next year because they did such a wonderful job with the trees in Washington Square and Five Corners."

"This is on greenhouse gases. I see where our great President Obama has committed the U.S. to reducing greenhouse gases when he goes to a Copenhagen meeting - I guess that's where he's going. ... These environmental people is about half nuts, I think."

"This is in response to the anti-atheist things I have seen in Mail Call. I am a 10-year-old atheist vegetarian Democrat. I do not try and force any of my opinions on others, but I feel that I have a right to my own ideas."

- Boonsboro

"After reading about the serious assaults at our area high schools, I would like to hear what action the BOE is going to take. Will it be another raise or award?"

"How in the world can the president of the county commissioners, Barr, have the audacity to make an agreement with a China city, instead of checking with the people of this city to see if it was appropriate? And also, how in the world can a person in Rochester, N.Y., decide whether or not we should do those things here? This is getting bizarre."

- Halfway

"I asked a business supervisor recently why they took the American flag down in their business. His explanation was 'This is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship,' and they'll exercise their rights to do so. You know, I don't care. The American flag should be our civil right, whether we're at work or otherwise."

"It shows how low our country has gone when we commemorate a terrorist like John Brown, who killed people, was a fanatic."

"The basic flaw in our judicial system regarding drunk drivers can be traced to a single factor: probation before judgment. This judicial option needs to be removed by legislature, so that in dealing with drunk drivers, judges are required to impose jail time, heavy fines, high-risk insurance assignment, mandatory counseling and driver re-examination, even for first offenders. All penalties at driver's expense - no exceptions."

"I just feel that it's time for people that go to church and believe in God to start to stand up for what they believe. I know that God cannot be happy with same-sex marriages, the nativity scene in Chambersburg being removed. God is very unhappy with this, so people, just don't sit in church on Sundays and fill the pews. Stand up and rally for the reason you go to church."

- Hagerstown

"I don't think Iran has any fear of Obama. That is why it continues to build its weapons of mass destruction. What will we do for oil if they use them, since we are not going to use our own oil?"

- Hagerstown

"The caller that says Sarah Palin has no experience running the country has a valid point. Obama had only two years as a senator and was elected president, and on his watch we have 10.2 percent unemployment, the U.S. auto industry in hock to the people for billions of dollars (that) we will never get repaid, a war that has escalated in Afghanistan and a major change to the best health care system in the world."
