What's wrong with this picture?

December 06, 2009

Editor's note: Each Monday, The Herald-Mail will highlight an infrastructure issue or other problem, and will try to find out what is being done to fix or improve the situation.

We will not tackle situations involving neighborhood or domestic disputes or consumer problems.

The problem: Pavement is sunken and cracked on Green Valley Drive in Halfway.

Who could fix it: Washington County Highway Department

What they say: County Highway Department Director Edwin Plank said Thursday that the department was aware of the problem, but was waiting for the water-quality department to conduct a test to find out if there are any problems under the street, such as an erupted sewer line.

"They're so backed up; that's one of the reasons that they haven't been able to perform that test," Plank said in a voice-mail message. "But we (are) aware of it, and we've been working on it and hopefully we will have it repaired, if not this week, next week."
