Meetings to address school attendance zones

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- The next steps on the timeline for possible changes to school attendance zones in the Washington County Public Schools have been scheduled.

The Facilities and Enrollment Advisory Committee (FEAC) delivered its final report to the Board of Education and superintendent of schools on Nov. 17.

Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Morgan will present her report on the recommendations at the school board's Tuesday business meeting at 1 p.m.

The superintendent's report will be posted on the school system's Web site at It also will be published for each elementary school student and made available at each elementary school.


The full FEAC report is also available for review at each school.

Also scheduled in connection with redistricting plans:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. -- A public BOE work session on redistricting at the Central Office auditorium. If necessary, a second work session will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Central Office auditorium. Work sessions and business meetings held at the Central Office will be televised live on Antietam Cable Channel 99.

  • A public hearing on the recommended changes is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. If the BOE deems a second public hearing necessary, it will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Smithsburg High School.
