The Bye Center for Implants and Periodontics

Dr. Fred Bye of the Bye Center for Implants and Periodontics in Hagerstown recently was recognized by the American Board of Periodontology for 25 years as a diplomate who exemplifies the mission and goals of the board.


A diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty.

Brechbill and Helman Construction Co.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Three employees of Brechbill and Helman Construction Co. recently received the LEED Green Associate certification.

They are Mark Helman, project administrator; Mike Kissel, senior project administrator; and Harold Shipp, project administrator.

The Green Associate is the Phase 1 level of certification with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED GA credential denotes basic knowledge of green design, construction and operations.

O'Neill Physical Therapy Services

Dr. Lorraine O'Neill, a physical therapist and owner of O'Neill Physical Therapy Services in Hagerstown, recently completed a course on treating people with progessive neurological conditions.

Conditions covered included multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.

O'Neill has more than 30 years of experience working with people with neurological disorders.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Troy Garman of Prudential Franklin Associates Realtors recently completed his broker licensing courses and test and has been named broker of record at Prudential Franklin Associates.

Garman has been in real estate sales for the last 6 1/2 years.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Michael Ocker, CPA, and Nina Thiessen, CPA, of Ocker & Associates PC recently attended a two-day multistate tax conference in Philadelphia.

The conference was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Topics discussed included multistate tax litigation, legislative updates and current trends in state tax policy.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. - Angie Hykes of Furniture Market in Waynesboro, Pa., and Schier's Furniture in Chambersburg, Pa., recently was honored for five years of service with the stores.

C&O Canal Trust

David K. Cushwa was unanimously elected to serve a two-year term on the C&O Canal Trust's board of directors.

Cushwa, a lifelong resident of Washington County, has an extensive entrepreneurial background and is a partner in the Hoxton Financial Inc. financial planning firm.

Cushwa holds a master's degree in business and is a chartered portfolio manager and accredited investment fiduciary.

The C&O Canal Trust was founded in 2007 and is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect, restore and promote C&O Canal National Historical Park.

Mont Alto Family Practice

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Dr. Michael J. Patti recently joined the staff of Mont Alto Family Practice.

Patti received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Patti completed his internship at the Naval Hospital Bremerton in Bremerton, Wash., and his residency at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is board certified in family medicine.

Maryland Correctional Training Center

Carol Butts, office secretary, has been named Employee of the Month for December at the Maryland Correctional Training Center.

In addition to her regular duties, Butts has devised spreadsheets to ease the workload of case managers. She also has assisted the Maryland Parole Commission, serving as an institutional parole associate.

Butts has been employed by the Maryland Correctional Training Center since October 2007.

Don Bowers Financial Services

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Don Bowers, CFS, owner of Don Bowers Financial Services, recently participated in the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of Tax Professionals annual Pennsylvania tax workshop.

The workshop is an annual update and review of Pennsylvania tax changes for the upcoming tax season.

Bowers offers retirement planning, investments and tax preparation. He is a certified fund specialist and investment representative with H.D. Vest Investment Services, a nonbank subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co.
